Calling a 20 ft shipping container home, Barside Espresso - one of the new kids on the block in Whangamata's cafe scene boasts a quaint yet inviting outdoor patio. Situated only minutes from the beach front, Barside is the perfect spot to enjoy your perfect cup in the sun or grab a takeaway and watch the waves.
The staff were lovely and the atmosphere on a sunny day was hard to beat. We tried the iced coffee which was a pleasantly different spin on your typical cold confection. Consisting of ice cream rather than just iced milk - there were no ice cubes in sight. Instead two pineapple lumps sat on top and added that extra special 'kiwi' touch.
Serving coffee from Wellington's own Coffee Supreme and organic treats from Kokako - Bar Side Espresso is a definite must-visit when in Whangamata.
